PROFILE- DONALD GIBSON: AUTHOR-: TWO TWISTS OF FATE: ONE WONDERFUL AND THE OTHER DEVASTATING The book: TWO TWISTS OF FATE: ONE WONDERFUL AND THE OTHER DEVASTATING was honored by Northen Virginia's Zebra Press as their book of the month for June of 2022. Zebra Press awarded the book with their highest rating of 5 stripes. In May of 2022 the author appeared on a Podcast sponsored by Zebra Press to promote the book. Background: I was raised in the city of Pittsburgh and of course I was and still a loyal Steeler's, Pirate's and Penguin's fan. Some of my fondest memories are attending Steeler's and Pirate's games at Forbes Field. Education: I graduated from Norwin High School located in the Eastern suburb of Pittsburgh. My undergraduate years were spent at Edinboro State Teachers College in Northwestern Pennsylvania majoring in Secondary Education and the field of Social Studies. After earning my degree at Edinboro, I was accepted at the University of Pittsburgh’s teaching internship program receiving a master’s degree in education. Professional Career: After attending the University of Pittsburgh I accepted a teaching position at Glen Burnie High School located in Glen Burnie, Maryland which is a suburb of Baltimore. I taught Social Studies as well serving as an assistant football coach and head Track and Field coach. After 33 years at Glen Burnie, I retired and accepted a job teaching a St Mary’s High School in Annapolis, Maryland. Retired permanently after spending 6 years at St. Marys’ High school. RETIREMENT YEARS: In 2004 I moved to Heritage Shores 55 plus golf community located in Delaware where I began pursuing golf on a regular basis. It is at Heritage Shores that I meant Muriel Waite. I met Muriel on a golf course played by Heritage Shores’ golfers before their golf course was completed. We played together at a few couple’s golf outings and not long after we as well became a couple off the golf course. REASON FOR WRITING THE BOOK: TWO TWISTS OF FATE: ONE WONDERFUL AND THE OTHER DEVASTATING: I decided to write this book at 77 years of age and most likely this will be the only book I write. I wrote the book for Muriel and my father. During the early years of my life my father battled Parkinson’s Disease until his death at 59. Muriel also battled her neurological disease until her death from covid-19 which was complicated by Lewy Body Dementia. At the time of her death, she was residing in a 24/7 care facility. After watching my father suffer during his battle with Parkinson’s Disease and my five years of caregiving for Muriel, it has giving me an understanding of these horrible diseases. We must find a cure for neurological diseases and what will help in this endeavor is to create an awareness of these “horrible diseases” and the individuals who unfortunately are battling everyday against them. Establishing an awareness of these diseases is the purpose of the book!
