Dr. John Durante, a proud alumnus of Stony Brook University, has dedicated over 30 years to education as both a teacher and administrator. Since 2010, he has served as the principal of Syosset High School, playing a key role in its recognition as one of the top high schools in the country. Under his leadership, the school has earned numerous accolades for its academic achievements, and its alumni continue to reflect its commitment to excellence. Dr. Durante began his career at Syosset High School in 1994 as a world languages teacher. His passion for guiding students through the college admissions process, especially after helping his daughters navigate their own journeys, inspired him to launch The College Admissions Process Podcast in 2022. The podcast has since become a valuable resource for students, parents, and college counselors. Awards & Honors: Best Principal on Long Island, awarded by Bethpage Federal Credit Union in 2016. Distinguished Educator, recognized by the Harvard Club of Long Island in 2017. This honor was particularly meaningful, as it was based on a nomination from a former student who attended Harvard University. This is an honor usually reserved for teachers, so it was extra special as Dr. Durante was the student’s high school principal. Outstanding Achievement Award in Educational Leadership, awarded by St. John’s University in 2012 at an awards dinner. Dr. Durante received his Doctoral Degree from St. John’s University in 2005 in School Administration and Supervision, and was recognized by his alma mater for his achievements in education. Keynote Speaker, for the Department of European Languages at SUNY Stony Brook's commencement ceremony in 2014. PTA Founders Day Award and the Jenkins Award for outstanding contributions to education. Through his leadership and commitment to student success, Dr. Durante continues to positively impact students’ academic careers and their futures. His work, both as an educator and podcast host, reflects his unwavering dedication to helping others achieve their full potential.
