Mark Sanders was born, raised, and educated in Nebraska; although he has lived in Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, and Idaho, he calls Ord, Nebraska, a small community on the eastern rim of the Sandhills, his home. His creative work includes poetry, fiction, and nonfiction, and his editing has advanced the work of Great Plains writers for more than 40 years. His work has appeared in such journals as the New York Times, Shenandoah, Glimmer Train, River Teeth, Prairie Schooner, and many more. Among his books are In a Good Time, Landscapes with Horses, and Conditions of Grace. He has won a Western Heritage Award and three Nebraska Book Awards; he was inducted into his hometown's Alumni Hall of Fame and into the University of Nebraska-Kearney's Distinguished Alumni. In 2007, he received the Mildred Bennett Award for fostering Nebraska's literary heritage. His poem, "Three Kinds of Pleasure," included in the book In A Good Time, won the 2020 Spur Award from Western Writers of America. He currently lives in Texas.
