关于作者

I practiced urology in Portland, Oregon and Southwest Washington at Kaiser Permanente and Oregon Health Sciences University from 1982 to 2014. I wrote a book for patients with newly diagnosed prostate cancer in 2015 and updated it in 2020 called "Action Plan, Prostate Cancer: choosing the right treatment for you". This book was intended to help patients engage in a shared decision making conversation their urologist. With a similar goal in mind, I began working on a book that would address the most common problems that men and women have involving their urinary and reproductive tracts. When the pandemic hit in March of 2020 I had a lot of time to write and by March of 2022 I had over 400 pages of content and 80 illustrations. We decided to break the books up into two books, one for female and one for male patients. It took a year to prepare both manuscripts to provide the finished products "A Curious Woman's Guide to Urology: UTIs, Wet Pants, Stones, and More!" and "A Curious Man's Guide to Urology: Sex, Stones, Prostate Woes, and More!" I found that when patients have good information about their condition, they make better decision about what to do about the condition. Who may want to read these books? Any curious man or woman who thinks they have a urologic problem, and have been told by a primary care clinician that they have a urologic problem and may need a referral to a urologist. Or, a patient who has seen a urologist and wants to know more about their problem. Anyone else? Yes, the books may provide primary care clinicians information about patients they are seeing with urologic conditions. And, the books may aid urologists who don’t have nearly enough time to explain a diagnosis to a patient in order to help that patient make a shared decision about their options for treatment or surgery.
