Timothy P. Gauthier, Pharm.D., BCPS, BCIDP is a pharmacist trained in infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship. He is a clinician, researcher, educator, and author. He is an advocate for antimicrobial stewardship and pharmacy education. Dr. Gauthier graduated from Northeastern University’s School of Pharmacy (Boston, MA) in 2008. He then completed a Post-Graduate Year-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and a Post-Graduate Year-2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital (Miami, FL). Since finishing terminal training he has worked in academia (Nova Southeastern University, 2010-2015), clinical practice (Miami Veterans Affairs Healthcare System, 2015-2019), and a leadership role (Baptist Health South Florida, 2019-current), all focusing on advancing the fields of infectious diseases pharmacy and antimicrobial stewardship. He holds certifications from the Board of Pharmacy Specialties for Pharmacotherapy and Infectious diseases. He has completed the Making A Difference in Infectious Diseases Pharmacotherapy Antimicrobial Stewardship Training Program. He has published > 40 peer-reviewed articles, including contributions within top journals such as Clinical Infectious Diseases, Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education, and American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy. He is the author of the book Learn Antibiotics, First Edition. He has co-authored several book chapters. He has worked as a free-lance writer for Pharmacy Times. He serves as a peer reviewer for several medical journals. Through social media his scholarly work has reached millions of people across the world. He is an active member of the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists, the American College of Clinical Pharmacy’s Infectious Diseases Practice and Research Network, and the Southeastern Research Group Endeavor. He was the 2019 recipient of the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists Gita Patel Best Practice Recognition Award. He was listed #58 in a November 2022 publication identifying the top 100 Twitter influencers in infectious diseases. He was ranked #32 in a 2021 list of the most influential leaders in pharmacy. His research interests include: antimicrobial stewardship, pharmacy education, pharmacy practice, pharmacy leadership, social media, colistin, inhaled tobramycin, antibiotic selection in sepsis, molecular rapid diagnostics, treatment of EBLs, penicillin skin testing, and treatment of vancomycin-resistant Enterococci. He is the creator and editor-in-chief of www.IDstewardship.com, www.LearnAntibiotics.com, and the many @IDstewardship social media profiles. He co-hosts the #ASPchat each month on Twitter. He reaches thousands of people each day on the internet and on social media, where he aims share reliable and relevant information from the world of pharmacy and healthcare in general.
