Whitney Lohmeyer is an accomplished professional in the field of satellite communications and engineering. Today she is serving in a historic role as the first Chief Technologist of the Federal Communications Commission’s Space Bureau working on policy and licensing matters related to satellites and space-based communications. Lohmeyer is passionate about enabling affordable Internet access to improve agriculture, healthcare, and education. She is currently on leave as faculty at Olin College of Engineering and as a Research Affiliate at MIT. She has a Ph.D. and Masters in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT, her B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from N.C. State, and has worked in technical roles at OneWeb, Google, Inmarsat, and NASA. Lohmeyer has also been involved in policy reform at the FCC and ITU, serving on the US Delegation to the World Radio Conference 2015. Outside of these roles, she has advised more than thirty companies on technical, financial, and regulatory matters and has testified before Congress on space and spectrum related issues. She sits on the board of N.C. State’s Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department, as well as FASESA, a non-profit bringing space exploration to classrooms throughout Africa.
