He is a certified law enforcement firearms instructor in multiple disciplines and, while on active duty, designed the weapons training programs at multiple military commands. Between the military and the private sector, he has conducted 20 overseas deployments, was a founding member and the Director of Training for Sealed Mindset (now Defensive Mindset Training), and is the Founder of Building Shooters Technology LLC, a small business that applies cutting-edge scientific research to develop improved training tools and methods for tactical applications. Building Shooters' core focus areas are: 1) Aligning training delivery methods with human cognitive architecture. 2) Developing the same neurological and physiological systems and functions in training that are required in the real world. 3) Improving methods of proficiency measurement to better align with operational requirements. 4) Developing Pre-Traumatic Stress Resilience through the application of brain-based training methodology. Dustin delivered keynote addresses on the subject of brain-based training design to the FBI's annual Firearms Instructor Conference and FBI National Academy in 2018 as well as to the Georgia Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors annual conference in 2019. His books are on the recommended reading lists of numerous leading instructors and researchers and are used as instructor textbooks by several federal, state, and local agencies. He has a Bachelor’s of Science from the U.S. Naval Academy, a Master’s Degree in Security Management, and is an ASIS Certified Protection Professional (CPP).
