Dwight Kling was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. Shortly afterward, his family moved to a small farm in West Texas at the beginning of the one of the worst droughts ever to plague the region. With no crops to sell, the family sank into hard times. Sunday go-to-meeting shirts were made from the floral prints of Gladiola flour sacks, and new shoes were a seldom luxury. Conditions forced his father, a holder of a master’s degree in Agricultural Economics, to take an Ag extension position at New Mexico State University, a situation that eventually led to his being recruited into the State Department's foreign service. As a result, Dwight grew up living in many different places around the world, including Chile, Costa Rica, Vietnam and Korea. He graduated from Seoul American High in the late 60's. He would go on to serve as a Warrant Officer helicopter pilot in the US Army before returning to the States to complete his college degree in Business Administration at Angelo State University. His professional career has been wide ranging: accountant, fifth-grade teacher and eventually into business development and training in the world of high technology. He retired from AT&T in 2010 and is now living with his wife of over fifty years in the small town of Buda, TX just south of Austin. He has been a lifelong devotee of science fiction, greatly influenced by the works of classic authors such as: Ursula K Le Quin, Aldous Huxley, Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, Robert Heinlein... and many others. His writing is influence by his personal philosophy; he defines himself as a Contemplative Rationalist.
