Abbott is a collective pseudonym for the four authors who contributed to the Based on a True Story series. • Karen Romano Young (Sybil Ludington: Revolutionary War Rider), also the author of Doodlebug: A Novel in Doodles, has written over a dozen books for children and lives with her family in Bethel, CT. • Jane Kelly (Mary Jemison: Native American Captive), also the author of The Desperate Adventures of Zeno and Alya, lives in Brooklyn, NY. • Kristin O'Donnell Tubb (John Lincoln Clem: Civil War Drummer Boy), also the author of Selling Hope and The 13th Sign, lives with her family in Tennessee. • Susan Hill (Nettie and Nellie Crook: Orphan Train Sisters) is the author of many books for children, including a picture book adaptation of Lassie Come Home, and lives in Portland, OR.
