Edna Khalily immigrated to the United States as a teenager. For three decades, she has taught children. She also volunteers and resources for nonprofit organizations. "Alisha's Magical Red Lipstick: 999 Ways to be Beautiful" was inspired by Khalily's mother. When she was about Alisha's age, her mother gave her red lipstick with a clear message that there are 1000 ways to be beautiful, and only one of them is physical. King Solomon's poem, Woman of Valor, which depicts a woman's value, was another source of inspiration. Khalily strives to teach the next generation in this fast-changing world at an early age the true values and principles that make any person beautiful. She also seeks to empower girls to be confident and fearless, like Alisha and Binsa.
