Elaine Weiss is a native of the Washington, DC area and has worked in education policy in various capacities. During her seven years leading the campaign for a Broader, Bolder Approach to Education at the Economic Policy Institute, she worked to call attention to the many ways that poverty impedes children's abilities to learn and teachers' abilities to do their jobs well. Dr. Weiss managed research and advocacy on early childhood education at the Pew Charitable Trusts and wrote her dissertation on that subject. She is also an alum of and the mother of two graduates of Montgomery County, Maryland public schools, so she sees first-hand and every day what goes on in great public schools serving students from diverse racial, ethnic, and sociological backgrounds from around the world.
