Elise Mcmullen-Ciotti

Elise McMullen-Ciotti is an author, children’s book editor, and food scholar with NYU Steinhardt’s Food Studies master’s program. Her academic research focuses on the role food plays in the healing of a people after great tragedy and the regenerative and the restorative efforts of Indigenous foodways. As a children’s book author, some of her books and stories include KANUCHI DAY, HEDGE OVER HEELS, and “Cannibal at the Door” in CALLING THE MOON. Elise is a proud member of the Cherokee Nation and grew up in Texas. Today, she lives in New York City with her husband, a large personal library, and an open kitchen.
