Now, having been an ER Nurse for years, I can honestly say that it is fun for me. I love the chaos and how, as an ER Nurse, I use my critical thinking, knowledge, and can-do spirit to ensure good outcomes for my patients. However, I will not, for one second, forget how overwhelming it was in the beginning. There were countless times when I doubted myself and felt like quitting. I am so thankful that I was surrounded by great nurses and preceptors who motivated me to continue giving it my best. The YouTube channel and our books came out of a desire to help new ER Nurses transition into the role, with the hopes of alleviating some of the stress and anxiety associated with working in such a fast-paced environment. One thing that helped me the most was continuously learning. I felt that the more I knew, the safer I was. Even if I didn’t know everything (still don’t and never will), continuously learning helped me develop a sixth sense for when something just isn't right, and when it comes to someone's life, this is so important. My favorite quote in nursing and in life is: "Be Proactive, Not Reactive!"
