Born in Lesotho, a small mountainous country in Southern Africa to Irish parents, Emma did most of her growing up in Vancouver. These early travels instilled in her a keen interest in people and places. She studied fine art at the University of British Columbia and L'Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, receiving a BFA in 2004 and completed a Masters in Architecture at Dalhousie University in 2008. Emma has practiced architecture in Johannesburg, taught design in The Gambia, and given sketching workshops in Brazil, the UK, and across Canada. She is the best-selling author of "Hand Drawn Halifax" (Formac Publishing) about her chosen home city in Nova Scotia. Currently she is working on "Hand Drawn Vancouver" (Appetite, Penguin Random House).
