The Maric series is a collection of stand-alone books, each one complete in itself. The main character carries through to a new location each time, and a new mission, along with supporting characters as required. Any references to previous books are explained. I get a lot of questions about the series, so here are the answers to the common ones. Yes, I do have a lot of martial arts experience, as you can tell from the books. No, I haven't been on any SAS missions, and 'Gray Ops' is entirely a figment of my imagination. Yes, Cal does exist (although of course he isn't called Cal), and he was a NZ SAS instructor before he retired and taught martial arts. He trained me through to a Black Belt level in Ju-Jitsu, and we talked a lot about the days when he was active in SAS circles. The time with him has certainly helped me write the Maric series! There are seven Maric books now, and each of them has a different situation around the world for the tall man to deal with. The last one, World's End, has some science-fiction background.. Don't be alarmed, it's solid SAS action, just a slightly different plotline. I also write science fiction (and a few other genres) as Warwick Gibson. The Navscar trilogy and H'Roth trilogies have done just as well as the Maric series, which is heartening, and you might like to try those. There is, of course, plenty of action! May the books you read increase the possibilities in your world.
