Ernest King

关于作者

When author and app developer Ernest King was growing up in Davis, California, he showed a passion for technology and building tangible things. That passion eventually led him to study Architectural Engineering and Construction Management at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. After graduating, Ernest moved to Southern California and accepted a position with Morley Builders, a renowned Southern California general contractor, where he was involved in the management of the construction/renovation of Los Angeles landmark buildings like the Getty Villa Museum, The California Science Center: Ecosystems, and the Hotel Bel-Air. During the construction of the California Science Center: Ecosystems project, Ernest was focused on the special exhibits, including the 188,000-gallon kelp tank. He had no idea at the time, but that ocean theme would later resurface in his life. In 2017 Ernest helped Morley Builders implement virtual reality as a means for clients to view and even walk around in virtual 3D models of their buildings. He also began demonstrating the technology for Cal Poly (his alma mater), USC and UCLA in a recruiting capacity, and even a STEM summer camp for kids. Ernest became rather obsessed with both virtual and augmented reality technology. And by the end of 2017, he decided to make that his focus. Ernest made a major career change and started his own company, FarSight XR, LCC. He secured contracts with the local Boys & Girls Clubs where he offered after school enrichment classes in which he would take children on virtual reality field trips and share educational augmented reality experiences with them. Witnessing the children’s enthusiasm for this technology inspired Ernest to create his own series of augmented reality books. He learned how to code and developed a mobile application called “FarSight XR”. Inspired by his own kids’ love of the tide pools, Ernest published his first book, “Tide Pools: An Augmented Reality Book”, which features real video footage captured at various California tide pool locations. The mobile app allows the pages of the book to truly come to life with the sights and sounds of the tide pools in this first of its kind augmented reality experience. It even features Ernest’s voice, as narration is available for each page via the app. Ernest followed this book up with another on reptiles and amphibians, an interactive solar system poster, and an interactive human anatomy poster. Be on the lookout for more educational augmented reality books and posters coming soon!
