I was educated at the Liverpool Collegiate School, and, despite my father being an amateur artist, I trained as an Industrial Designer, becoming a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the Institution of Production Engineers in 1968. I have been a senior manager in engineering for many years, and this lies behind much of my writing. Long retired, I have a wide range of interests and hobbies, of which my architectural models have been exhibited in my local area. My book, 'The Secret History of Liverpool Cathedral', arose from my card model of the building. Having studied six languages I am been an Egyptologist and have a working knowledge of Egyptian hieroglyphs. NB! My cartouche is on the front cover of my books to distinguish me from my namesakes. Besides writing fact and fiction I also write for stage, screen, and radio. One of my radio sketches, 'The Handbag', a piece of black humour, was broadcast by BBC Radio Merseyside, and other, 'The Note', by a local radio station, and some have been perfomed on stage. I'm still waiting for a film script to be used, though. Several of my poems have been published by the British NHS with one, 'Harping On', being issued 19,000 times as I was in an award-winning cancer awareness team for four year. That taught me about the importance of nutrition and is at the heart of my 'The Clairvoyant Picture' Trilogy, which is the battle between two empires selling nutritious food and fast food. Most people should be able to appreciate the difference between the two. The Trilogy is the most extensive piece of fiction have written but it's not finished. A sequel is planned because the Standish family have come to stay and don't seem to want to go home!
