Gary Chartrand

Gary Chartrand was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan in 1936. He received his Ph.D. in mathematics from Michigan State University in 1964 in the area of graph theory. He was a faculty member at Western Michigan University during the period 1964-2005. He has authored or co-authored several books in mathematics and many research papers. He was the first managing editor of the Journal of Graph Theory. His interests include musical theatre, especially lyricists and composers. He is currently working on a book for a more general audience on graph theory, to be titled The Fascinating World of Graph Theory. He is also working on a comic book style mathematics book under the title Mathematics Classics Illustrated.
