About the author –Gary L. Martin--- Gary L. Martin is the author of the “A Ranger Named Granite” series, which, although fiction, is based on actual events when Mr. Martin was a Wilderness Ranger in the Forest Service. Mr. Martin, an Air Force veteran, served in the Pacific Command and had duties as an Air Policeman. He also served as security on several NASA projects, including Project Mercury. Mr. Martin has been crew on Producer John Ford’s 105-foot gaff-rigged ketch yacht, Araner, and has worked as an extra on several movies and TV series. The GI Bill provided Mr. Martin with a college degree and an opportunity to study wolves and write a thesis for a degree in Wildlife Biology. He also earned a Lifetime Teaching Certificate from U.C. Berkeley. Gary has been a police officer, student helicopter pilot, Deputy Sheriff, Chief pilot of two Boating Enforcement units, forensic expert in boating accidents, and Expert Witness for Federal and civil courts, where he investigated over 150 boating accidents. When Mr. Martin tried retirement, he decided to live a dream instead. He became a Wilderness Ranger for the U.S. Forest Service. After several years, Mr. Martin decided to fully retire in his home in the Sierra Nevada mountains with his wife and Black Labs, Fatch, and Colby. Mr. Martin has written several books based on his lifetime experiences. “Shadows in the Northern Lights,” “Horizon of the Last Frontier,” “A Ranger Named Granite” the three-book series, “Forensic Boating Accident Investigation,” and “Chronicles of the Police Vessel Sea Hawk on San Francisco Bay.”
