Genie Petrocco, a native of Denver, Colorado, grew up on a truck farm in Henderson, Colorado. Hers was a multi-generational home rooted in a strong Italian-Catholic community. Genie graduated from Adams City High School in the 1950s, took her first job at Denver Chicago Trucking and married into another Italian-Catholic farming family from Welby, Colorado. Dominic, Genie’s late husband, remained a farmer for life. Genie supported the successful passage of the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District tax and served on the Adams County Cultural Board. Jackie Conner, Adams County commissioner Elaine Valente and Genie were instrumental in the founding of the Adams County Historical Society’s Museum. In addition to being a cradle Catholic, Genie is a graduate of the Denver Catholic Biblical School. Genie and Dominic raised two daughters, Angeli and Lisa, the former an artist, and the latter a farmer at heart. Today Genie lives in Broomfield, Colorado near Lisa, granddaughter Kari and three of her five great-grandchildren.
