Gerry Brooks began his career in private practice in 1979 as a licensed speech-language pathologist, specializing in cognitive and communicative disorders. He has logged thousands of treatment hours with survivors of brain injury and their families, and served as a consultant to hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and school systems. In 1998 Gerry joined the planning team for the Northeast Center for Rehabilitation & Brain Injury in Lake Katrine, New York, a year prior to its opening and served as the center’s program director until his retirement in 2023. He was responsible in that time for the development and oversight of the center’s neurorehabilitation and neurobehavioral programs. Gerry has presented on various brain injury topics at state, national, and international venues. Gerry has a master’s degree in speech-language pathology, and during his career he has held the certificate of clinical competence by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the certified brain injury specialist trainer credential from the Brain Injury Association of America, the technical trainer certification from The Mandt System of therapeutic behavioral support, and a contemplative care certificate from the New York Zen Center for Contemplative Care. His primary interests are meditation, tennis, motivation, self-awareness, and life-long well-being.
