Gillette Elvgren has written hundreds of short sketches and monologues for schools, churches, Christian Ministries; a score of touring scripts for professional theatre companies; and several full length works also for professional and university companies and theatre departments. Players, for THE SELFISH GIANT, 1994; Best Comedy, Portfolio Magazine, Norfolk, Va. for BRENDAN’S JOURNEY; Best Theatrical Production, Pittsburgh City Paper, for STEEL/CITY, 1992 (written by G. Elvgren); Best New Musical, Portfolio Magazine, SPREAD YOUR GARMENT OVER ME, 2002. COMMISSIONS for writing projects: Department of Defense films on A.I.D.S. Prevention, 2003; Art Within Writer’s Fellowship, for writing a full length screenplay, MIRACLE MILE (2006); Turkey Hill Food Commission for writing a full length screenplay entitled PENN (2012). Productions of his plays have been staged at twenty universities. Blue Moon Publishing, Virginia, has published three of his play anthologies as well as fifteen of. his full length, social action plays for schools, as well as full length faith based and children’s plays. There have been over 8,000 performances of Elvgren scripts. Gillette Elvgren received his B.A. and M.A. in Theatre from Tulane University, advisor Dr. Richard Schechner; and his Ph.D. from F.S.U., advisor Martin Esslin. He spent twenty years as a tenured faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh and thirty years at Regent University where he taught Playwriting and Directing and is presently Professor Emeritus in the School of Communication and the Arts. He will have two books coming out in 2023, both by Integratio Press, Christianity and Communication Studies Network, entitled Playwriting for the Theatre; A Christian Perspective and Directing for the Theatre: A Christian Perspective.
