I am 56 and live in Australia and have lived with a rare congenital condition, and kept it a secret all my life until now, hence my first book "A Secret Life - Surviving a Rare Congenital Condition”, published in 2017 and an updated version in 2019. It's taken me a lifetime but I finally have "come out" in the most public way possible, by publishing a book which is raw, confronting, but most importantly, totally real. I also have undertaken a role in advocating for others born with an Imperforate Anus (IA), also known as Anorectal Malformation (ARM), and founded a non-profit organisation called ONE in 5000 Foundation which is a global resource for the IA/ARM community. In December 2020, I published my 2nd book called “Rare and Resilient - ONE in 5000 Anthology” which is a compilation of 133 personal stories from people in the IA/ARM global community from 26 countries.
