I grew up in Durham, North Carolina and earned a BA in Psychology at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Immediately after college I moved to Berkeley, California. I attended graduate school there and earned a Ph.D. in Psychology from University of California, Berkeley. Since 1994, I have been working as a Lecturer at California State University, East Bay, teaching a wide variety of courses there, including personality courses, stress and coping, psychological tests, history of psychology, and research courses. Along with Alan Monat and Richard S. Lazarus, I co-edited "The Praeger Handbook on Stress and Coping," which was published in 2007. In 2010, I published "Encyclopedia of Emotion" with contributing authors Yvette Malamud Ozer and Yuri Ito. Now in 2010, with Erica Frydenberg, I am co-editing a book on personality, stress, and coping in education, with an expected release date of fall 2011. I live in Oakland with my husband. I love reading good books and watching good movies, travel, running and swimming, and I am interested in animal welfare.
