H. Edward Durham Jr. is currently a Senior Veterinary Technician at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in the Caribbean country of St. Kitts and Nevis. He began working in veterinary medicine in 1976 at the age of 14 in his step-fathers veterinary clinic. Since then he has devoted his career to learning everything about being a great veterinary technician. It is there, he developed a fervent desire, interest, and devotion to veterinary cardiology. He has spent the majority of his career understanding the fine details of veterinary cardiology. His career experience includes medical and surgical aspects of cardiology including artificial heart research and open cardiothoracic surgery. He is committed to making veterinary technology be seen as a true professional discipline, and advancing veterinary technicians as paraprofessionals. Mr. Durham demonstrated time and again, his desire to further ALL veterinary technicians beyond today’s expectations. When asked why he never became a veterinarian, he replied. “We have plenty of great veterinarians, but not enough great technicians. I want to help make technicians great.” Consequently, Mr. Durham has been a flag bearer and a leader in making cardiology a specialty option for Veterinary Technician Specialists, serving on the Executive Board of the Academy of Internal Medicine for Veterinary Technicians as a Charter Member and first Director at Large in Cardiology a post he held for 12 years.
