Hartmut Berghoff is Director of the German Historical Institute in Washington D.C. and Professor of Economic History at the University Göttingen in Germany. He has received his PhD from the University of Bielefeld and taught and done research there as well as at the University of Tübingen, Humboldt-University Berlin, Beisheim Graduate School of Management Koblenz. Institute for Advanced Study Berlin, and Harvard University. His fields of expertise are the history of consumption, business history, and immigration history. Most recently he has co-edited Decoding Modern Consumer Societies, New York (Palgrave Macmillan) 2012, The Rise of Marketing and Market Research New York (Palgrave Macmillan) 2012 and Business in the Age of Extremes.
