Little did she know where such humble beginnings would lead. Today Heather Smith is living her dreams. She can be found in the arena developing her barrel horses, on the road competing with them and sharing what she’s learned with others, or in her home office writing about it all! Over the years, Heather has overcome numerous obstacles that stood in the way of barrel racing success. Lessons were often hard-earned, which is why she’s enthusiastic to pave a smoother path for other barrel racers. Although she has successfully trained for and competed in reining, and has experience with starting colts and rehabilitating troubled horses, barrel racing continues to be Heather’s primary focus. Perhaps what sets Heather apart is her unbridled enthusiasm for continuing education. This passion has inspired her to create and take advantage of opportunities to learn from the best in the industry. Heather has worked closely and ridden with many leading professionals, whose guidance has no doubt influenced and shaped her integrative style of horsemanship and teaching. In addition, Heather has invested a great deal of time and resources in developing her education on the specific topics of equine bodywork and therapy, nutrition and hoof care. She holds an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Veterinary Technology and is licensed as a Veterinary Technician. Heather’s experiences have led her to realize that achieving success in barrel racing, or any other discipline, is really more about personal development than horse training, and that only when we reveal the best in ourselves, can we do the same with horses. Through her own experiences, she’s become determined to make the secrets to barrel racing success more understandable and readily available to barrel racers around the world. Today, she does just that through her website, www.BarrelRacingTips.com, where she offers quality, original how-to articles and videos as well as a collection of resources designed specifically for barrel racers who are ready and willing to take their competition to the next level. A North Dakota native, Heather spent fourteen years in Wyoming before she and her husband Craig, became Texans in 2013. They make their home in the central part of the state between Waco and College Station.
