Award-winning author and publisher Helen Hegener has written many non-fiction books, including "The History of Sled Dogs in North America," "The Alaska Railroad 1902-1923," "Alaskan Roadhouses," "The Matanuska Colony Barns," "The All Alaska Sweepstakes," "The First Iditarod," "Alaska and the Klondike," and many more. Through her publishing company, Northern Light Media, Helen has also published many books by other authors, including Dr. Gary C. Stein, Lew Freedman, Anne Winters, Veryl Goodnight, Jody Ellen Meanus and more. Helen has given presentations about the subjects of her books at the University of Alaska, the Alaska State Fair, the Palmer Historical Society, the Talkeetna Roadhouse, radio, television, and many other venues, and she has written articles for the Anchorage Daily News, Alaska Magazine, Last Frontier Magazine, Alaska Dispatch, Mushing Magazine, and The Frontiersman, among many others. She lives near Big Lake, Alaska.
