Professor Helen Payne was born in England. She has pioneered the development of the dance movement psychotherapy profession in the UK, leading the forming of the professional association, the first post graduate training, research and publications. Her first book 'Creative Movement and Dance in Group work' published first in 1990 and been reprinted numerous times and in numerous languages. It is still popular today. Her next book in 1992 'Dance Movement Therapy: Theory and Practice' was an edited volume presenting much of the early DMT practice being conducted in the UK. This was followed in 2006 by a further completely new edited book 'Dance Movement Therapy,: Theory, Research and Practice' which documents some of the research underpinning DMT and with all entirely new contributors.
