Hiawatha Henry is a dynamic storyteller and creative force hailing from Houston, Texas. She worked at the Houston Public Library for 23 years. She started out as a library assistant where she worked her way up to Event Coordinator. She created some of the most dynamic programs. The Movie and a Meal program, a weekly movie screening program which started off as program screening the latest movies during lunch time but turned into a game changer for those experiencing homelessness. Movie and Meal was used to bridge unhoused attendees to housing, jobs, record expungement and other library programs. over 300 people were housed because of attending the program, It was the highest attended weekly program for 10 years, The Annual holiday for the unhoused. A party where the unhoused were able to celebrate the holidays with food and Christmas presents, offering normalcy for a few hours. All the programs were funded personally by her through the grace of GOD and by some generous coworkers. She created Hip Hop for Literacy with her friend, another event coordinator Tiffany Coffield. Annual Scream In, and a monthly Open Mic comedy night for clean comedians. As a passionate advocate for authentic representation, Hiawatha is on an exciting new journey to write movies and produce television shows that resonate with diverse audiences across both network and streaming platforms. Drawing from her rich cultural background and life experiences, she crafts narratives that explore the complexities of identity, friendship, and resilience. With a keen eye for detail and a unique voice, Hiawatha aims to bring fresh perspectives to the screen, celebrating the vibrant stories that often go untold. Her work is a blend of humor, heart, and poignant insight, reflecting her belief in the power of storytelling to connect people and spark meaningful conversations. She has written a TV pilot originally called “Public Library “but has been revamped and retitled "Library Life" based on her library work experience. The treatment is in the book! When she’s not writing, you can find her exploring the cultural gems of Houston or enjoying a good book.
