Science writer Holly B. Martin grew up in the Secret City of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, built "overnight" during WWII as part of the Manhattan Project to develop the first atomic bomb. Descended from a family of engineers, Martin followed in their footsteps and studied environmental engineering at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. After working in the engineering field for 8 years, Martin began a new career editing and writing for technical magazines, companies like AT&T Bell Laboratories and non-profits including the National Science Foundation. Martin has interviewed dozens of engineers and scientists and written hundreds of articles, blog posts, and books on robotics, automation, lasers & fiber optics, materials science, manufacturing, and careers in STEM (science, engineering, technology & math).
