Howard Mandel

I'm a Chicago-born, New York-brined and back-at-home author of two books about jazz (Miles Ornette Cecil: Jazz Beyond Jazz and Future Jazz), editorial consultant to The Jazz Omnibus: 21st-Century Photos and Writings by Members of the Jazz Journalists Association (of which I'm president), senior editor of the Billboard Illustrated Encyclopedia of Jazz and Blues and it's subsequent editions. I've been an independent arts journalist for more than 40 years, working on newspapers, magazines and websites, appearing on tv and radio (as an NPR arts reporter/producer). I’ve taught at New York University and elsewhere, lectured internationally, I blog at ArtsJournal/JazzBeyondJazz and Substack Mandel's Media Diet.
