When I first went to college, I was a Creative Writing major. But then I realized I might want the ability to buy food someday. So, after two years, I picked up a second major—Accounting. Creative writing and accounting seemed like a perfect pairing until I realized that “creative accounting” goes to prison. After three and a half years of college, I dropped out to become a stand-up comic. My parents were thrilled about this decision (sarcasm). Before I left college, I was lucky enough to become a finalist in the "Funniest College Student in America" competition. That gave me the confidence (and the contacts) to try the comedian route. For the next four years, I told dirty jokes in smoky nightclubs across the country (I only have clean jokes now). Eventually, I wanted things you can’t have when you’re always on the road—like a couch and a wife. So, I left the stage, went back to college with a new major (Computer Science), and eventually graduated, much to my parents’ relief. Grad school followed, leading to a career as a Computer Science professor specializing in robotics. I now have the coolest toys in the world. As they say, you can take the comedian off the stage, but you can’t take the comedy out of the robotics professor. Maybe I’m the only one that says that. After 20 years of being Professor Lloyd, I realized I missed making people laugh. So, I started The Robot Comedy Show—because, really, who doesn’t have a robot comedy show? Over the past eight years, I’ve performed for over 30,000 kids at more than 200 schools (plus a few comedy clubs and churches). In small towns across Montana, I’m practically as famous as Bucky McGiggles, the rodeo clown. When I hit that 30,000-kid milestone, I thought, “I should sell them something. Like a book!” So, I pulled on my big-boy creative writing pants and wrote The Mighty Worrier, a humorous, laugh-out-loud middle school novel. Proceeds from the book (and its sequel, coming 2/14/2025!) help cover the costs of The Robot Comedy Show. If you’re interested in bringing The Robot Comedy Show to your school, reach out to Hunter Lloyd via his social media, or his website. In the meantime, you can support the show by buying The Mighty Worrier. Full disclosure: there aren’t any robots in the book, just funny characters. Now here is a small list of my professional accomplishments, I was told I need to brag a little more: • NASA Robotics Mars Competition World Champion • 11 medals at the Robot Olympics • Finalist in the 2023 and 2024 World Series of Comedy in Las Vegas • Patented inventor of The Snoozedoll alarm clock • Developer of the WatchKeeper Invisible Fence for the Department of Defense • Creator of the VR video game "The Walls" • Professor, author, comedian, inventor, publisher, dad, and most importantly husband (it only took me 12 years after I quit touring, but I did find a wife, and I still got her 23 years later. Seriously, she’s real. We have 2 kids). • Owner of a couch.
