We sold our first ebook on Amazon in October 2008. We are now writing paperbacks and Amazon does the printing! A great convenience for us authors......until something goes wrong. There is an issue with Amazon printing Paperback books for us authors. Amazon prints the Paperbacks when they are ordered. They do not just print one on a run, but a few at a time. The author has no control over the accuracy of Amazon printing procedures or quality. For example, the Paperback edition of the Hieroglyphic Dictionary 3000 was a very popular paperback. Around March 2021 Amazon printing made a terrible mistake. They printed someone else's pages (something in French) using the cover of the Hieroglyphic Dictionary 3000. Naturally when Customers who purchased this paperback received the wrong content they were very upset....and I do not blame them. This generated many one star reviews and sales of the paperback have completely stopped. Again, it is not the customer or author's fault. Amazon has since corrected the printing error, I know because I recently purchased a copy and it is fine. But Amazon will not either remove these reviews, or at least not include the one star rating in the overall total rating or at least add a caveat after each review clearly explaining what happened and its correction. The ebook version of Hieroglyphic Dictionary 3000 also reflects the one star reviews of Amazon's paperback printing error. When the reviews pertaining to the paperback formatting and issues it should not reflect on the ebook version. The paperback printing error has absolutely nothing to do with the ebook version. But go figure! So the thought of writing any more paperbacks for Amazon to print does seem like a waste of time. I have since heard from other authors of paperback editions that this has happened to them also and Amazon does nothing for them.
