Israa Nasir is a New York City based psychotherapist, writer and the founder of WellGuide - a digital community for mental health awareness. She also writes a bi-monthly newsletter on Substack called 'The Well Guide' for more long-form content on mental health and personal growth. Her work is centered on transforming the way we talk about mental health, taking it from a place of shame to a place of empowerment. A Pakistani-Canadian child of immigrants, she has a specific focus on mental health, identity formation and healing for the AAPI first and second generation immigrant community. Israa has been featured in NBC, Vox, Huffpost, Teen Vogue and other major publications. She has been invited to speak at Mental Health America, Google, Meta, and Yale, among other corporations, nonprofits and educational institutions. Israa sits on the Mental Health Advisory Board for both PopSugar (Vox Media) and the menstrual health product and advocacy brand, August. She received her undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Toronto in Toronto, and then her Master’s in Counselling at Adelphi University (The Derner Institute) in New York; furthering her training, she is certified for Cognitive Behavior Therapy at The Beck Institute and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy at The Albert Ellis Institute. She is currently licensed as a limited permit mental health counsellor in New York State. And has spent 6 years working the digital mental health field. She currently lives, loves, and works in New York City. Toxic Productivity is her first book.
