J. A. (John) Turley’s most recent publication (2024) is BODY SHOTS, subtitle: Belize Justice—A Caribbean Mystery. Turley discovered and grew to love the paradise of Belize not only because of the beauty of the culture and the pristine environment but as a viable source of mystery, intrigue, and good people. For example, Body Shots protagonist Kennedy Bracken, who, while scuba diving the Belize Barrier Reef, witnesses and photographs sharks in a feeding frenzy, their target a young woman’s body. Minutes later, alone at sea, Bracken is left with little more than bad memories and morbid photos. As a retired accident investigator obsessed with death resolution, he is compelled to learn who she was and how she died. His persistence pays off—only to exhume a truth more brutal than the sharks. In 2019, Turley released his debut mystery—THE HOLE TRUTH (not to be confused with the WHOLE truth)—a billion-dollar, oil-and-gas, bullet-driven, RICO crime mystery. It's like BODY SHOTS, but only because it, too, requires the assembly of ugly puzzle pieces to build the truth.
