J. R. Devoe grew up on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, in the town of Sydney Mines. He has since traveled to six continents, including Antarctica in 2013 to research elements of his debut novel, Onero's Hunt. In 2014, he pedaled a bicycle across Canada to raise money for WaterAid, a charity that provides clean drinking water and sanitation services to developing countries. In 2016, he pedaled a bicycle across New Zealand for the sheer joy of it. J. R. Devoe currently works as a professional seafarer, where his voyages continue to inspire his writing and fuel his passion for exploration.
