Jack Larkin, born in Chicago in 1943, has written several books, including "The Reshaping of Everyday Life 1790-1840" (HarperCollins,1988), "Where We Lived: Discovering the Places We Once Called Home, The American Home 1775-1840" (Taunton Press, 2006),and most recently, "Where We Worked: Celebrating America's Workers and the Nation They Built, 1830s-1930s" (Lyons Press, 2010). He is Affiliate Professor of History at Clark University and Chief Historian Emeritus at Old Sturbridge Village, the outdoor museum of early American history. In researching "Where We Worked" he uncovered hundreds of ordinary Americans' work narratives (including some from members of his own family) and explored the vast photographic archives of the Library of Congress.
