About the Authors of the Chemical Technicians' Ready Reference Handbook, 5th Edition Jack T. Ballinger grew up in the cotton fields of Southeast Missouri. In attempting never to return to those fields; Jack went on to earn a B.S. in Chemistry from Eastern Illinois University, a M.S. in Organic Chemistry and an Ed.D. from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. He spent approximately ten years in industry as an analytical chemist in the aerospace, petroleum, and biofuel industries. Professor Ballinger retired as a chemistry professor from St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley with 35 years of full-time teaching. Jack and his wife (Susie) have three children and five grandchildren. Professor Ballinger has co-authored several McGraw-Hill publications including the Chemical Operator's Portable Handbook and the Chemical Technicians' Ready Reference Handbook, 3rd and 4th editions. In 2011, Dr. Ballinger co-authored the fifth edition of Chemical Technicians' Ready Reference Handbook with his two sons: Clint (Ph.D. - nuclear engineering) and Barry (M.S. - certified occupational hygienist) as consulting editors. They like to travel in their spare time.
