Jake Weeks is a biologist in the UK with a great passion for reptiles and amphibians. He runs an educational company, The Reptile Academy Ltd, which provides educational and interactive animal handling experiences to schools, special educational needs centres, universities and the general public. Sharing his knowledge about the wonderful world of reptiles, he hopes his work contributes to better animal husbandry practices and the improvement of animal welfare standards. Right there, his two main goals are education and animal welfare. Recently, The Reptile Academy Ltd has been translating its educational material into a magazine to have greater outreach in the UK and internationally. Having obtained both a First Class BSc. Biology (Hons) degree and a First Class MRes (Masters by Research) Advanced Biological Sciences degree from the University of Southampton, UK, he has a broad level of knowledge across many biological fields and specialises in microbiology and disease. Therefore, Jake takes a particular interest in reptile and amphibian diseases, many of which involve bacterial and fungal infections. Currently, Jake is a doctoral researcher investigating lung disease (COPD) at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and concurrently manages The Reptile Academy. He is also an elected Associate Member of the Royal Society of Biology (AMRSB) and Fellow of the Linnean Society (FLS). This recognition signifies being a professional biologist who is well qualified and subject to a rigorous code of conduct. This experience is translated into the exceptional quality services and educational material that The Reptile Academy provides, with animal welfare central to his ethos.
