James A. Buck has long been fascinated with the mechanics of plot and narrative structure. This interest led him to explore the work of the Russian Formalists, particularly that of Viktor Sklovski and Vladimir Propp. Insights gleaned from Propp's writings helped form the basis for his book The Art of Suspense. Buck is also a contributor to the best-selling anthology Pulp on Pulp. He's currently working on a fantasy series and anticipates the first volume to be published in mid-to-late 2025. Literary influences include H.P. Lovecraft, Tanith Lee, and M. John Harrison. Filmic influences include Fritz Lang, Alfred Hitchcock, and Akira Kurosawa.
