During more than two decades as a news reporter, Janice Hisle focused mostly on crime and courts, covering hundreds of death investigations--including the chilling bathtub drowning case explored in her debut book,"Submerged: Ryan Widmer, his drowned bride and the justice system." This book won the true crime category of two national contests in 2020: the IndieReader Discovery Award and the National Indie Excellence Award. A lifelong Ohioan, Janice graduated summa cum laude from Kent State University's school of journalism then served as a news reporter for four daily newspapers before becoming a freelance writer and author. She has earned numerous awards for her work, ranging from breaking news to personality profiles and months-long investigations of public records. Janice and "SUBMERGED" have been featured on national and local TV shows, radio programs and podcasts. She also has been a guest speaker for numerous community groups, book clubs and bookstores. Janice narrated her own audiobook and is exploring other opportunities for voice-over work. Because of her side gig as a group fitness instructor, Janice jokes that her feet stay as busy as her keyboard does. Janice likes to encourage people to think more critically, whether they're in her fitness class or in one of her book-signing audiences. A proud member of The Authors Guild, she enjoys exchanging ideas with fellow authors while also mentoring younger writers.
