Raised in a Pentecostal home, Janice Selbie was a devoted Christian for decades when her faith shockingly dissolved. After divorcing both her religion and her husband, she returned to school to become a professional counsellor specializing in Religious Trauma. She has since founded CORT: the Conference on Religious Trauma and the Shameless Sexuality: Life After Purity Culture conference, as well as developed the Divorcing Religion Workshop and Podcast. Her book Divorcing Religion: A Memoir and Survival Handbook takes readers along on her deconversion journey and offers practical guidance for others deconstructing their religious beliefs.
