I am a writer and professional development consultant. I retired after nearly 25 years as the director of the Louisville Writing Project at the University of Louisville, and 20 years as director of the Kentucky Writing Project. I served on leadership teams for the National Writing Project and am also the co-author of several educational texts, including Mentor Texts That Spark Writing and You Have to Teach It Before You Can Test It: Lessons and Resources to Support Growth in Writing. I grew up in Sioux City, Iowa, and Louisville, Kentucky, but also have strong ties to southeastern Nebraska, where my grandparents all lived. My hobbies are gardening, cooking, crafts, genealogy, volunteer work, and being a Grandma. My favorite time of year is summer, because that's when I host Grandma Camp, where I have an opportunity to spoil my grandkids but also to pass on family stories and family recipes.
