Jeffrey B. Perry is an independent, working class scholar who was formally educated at Princeton, Harvard, Rutgers, and Columbia University. He was a long-time (33 years) postal and labor activist, elected union officer with Local 300, and editor for the National Postal Mail Handlers Union (div. of LIUNA, AFL-CIO) at the national and local levels. Dr. Perry preserved and inventoried the Hubert H. Harrison Papers (now at Columbia University's Rare Book and Manuscript Library). He is the author of "Hubert Harrison: The Voice of Harlem Radicalism, 1883-1918" (Columbia University Press, 2009) and "Hubert Harrison: The Struggle for Equality, 1918-1927" (Columbia University Press, 2020), the editor of "A Hubert Harrison Reader" (Wesleyan University Press, 2001) and he edited the new, expanded edition of "When Africa Awakes: The 'Inside Story' of the Stirrings and Strivings of the New Negro in the Western World" by Hubert H. Harrison, with a New Introduction and Notes by Jeffrey B. Perry (Diasporic Africa Press, 2015). He is also literary executor for Theodore W. Allen (author of "The Invention of the White Race"). He edited and introduced Allen's "Class Struggle and the Origin of Racial Slavery: The Invention of the White Race," wrote "The Developing Conjuncture and Some Insights from Hubert Harrison and Theodore W. Allen on the Centrality of the Fight Against White Supremacy" ("Cultural Logic," 2010), and wrote introductions, new back matter, and new expanded indexes for the new expanded (Verso Books edition of) Theodore W. Allen's two-volume -- "The Invention of the White Race" -- Vol. 1 subtitled "Racial Oppression and Social Control" and vol. 2 subtitled "The Origin of Racial Oppression in Anglo-America." Dr. Perry has placed the Theodore W. Allen Papers and a portion of the Jeffrey B. Perry Postal and Labor Papers at UMass-Amherst. Writings by Dr. Perry have appeared widely in newspapers, journals, and online publications and he has spoken on radio and TV and delivered presentations at hundreds of domestic and international venues including colleges, universities, unions, libraries, bookstores, museums, conferences, community and educational forums, and high schools.
