Jeremy Arnold is an author, film historian and commentator. His latest book is the revised and expanded edition of Christmas in the Movies, published in 2023 by Running Press (a subsidiary of Hachette) and Turner Classic Movies. His 2016 book The Essentials: 52 Must-See Movies and Why They Matter, and its 2020 follow-up The Essentials: Vol. 2, are companions to TCM’s long-running “Essentials” program, profiling some of the most vital and influential movies in film history. Jeremy also wrote Lawrence of Arabia: The 50th Anniversary, published by Sony Pictures Entertainment as a supplement to that film’s deluxe Blu-ray release; two essays in The Call of the Heart: John M. Stahl and Hollywood Melodrama, a 2018 book tracing the career of classic director John Stahl; contributions to Jeanine Basinger’s 2003 edition of The World War II Combat Film: Anatomy of a Genre; numerous essays and liner notes for home entertainment releases; and over seven hundred programming articles since 2003 for the TCM website. Jeremy’s writing has also appeared in Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, Moviemaker, Premiere, and DGA Magazine. His commentating work includes appearances at film festivals and repertory screenings across the United States and internationally, and fifteen audio commentaries for the Blu-ray or DVD release of classic films, including Sudden Fear (1951), Ride Lonesome (1959), Day of the Outlaw (1959), Ladies of Leisure (1930), Raw Deal (1948), The Holly and the Ivy (1952), and The Lavender Hill Mob (1951). Disc release labels include Criterion, Indicator, Kino-Lorber, Sony, Cohen Film Group, and ClassicFlix. Jeremy has appeared on TCM as a guest programmer/host numerous times. In July 2023, he programmed and guest-hosted, with Ben Mankiewicz, a 20-film spotlight on B movies of the 1930s and 1940s.
