Dr. Jiban Khuntia is an Associate Professor in Information Systems and Health Administration at the University of Colorado Denver’s Business School. He directs the Health Administration Research Consortium (HARC). Dr. Khuntia is renowned for his extensive research in information systems, health IT, digital service innovation, and sustainability. He is a prolific scholar with publications in premier journals such as Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly, Journal of Management of Information Systems, Production and Operations Management, Decision Sciences, and Journal of Medical Internet Research. His academic foundation includes a Ph.D. in Information Systems from the University of Maryland, College Park. As the director of HARC, Dr. Khuntia leads innovative research that shapes thought leadership in health administration and business, with a particular focus on the technology and artificial intelligence enabled transformation of health systems. He has studied nationwide trends for health systems for the last several years, identifying the critical challenges, strategies, and priorities. His research contributions have gained significant attention, with coverage in major media outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, as well as features through blogs and podcasts by the International Hospitals Federation and other organizations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Khuntia’s team provided crucial insights into health systems’ strategic responses, further establishing him as a thought leader in the healthcare industry. Prior to academia, Dr. Khuntia enjoyed a distinguished career in government and industry, where he played a pivotal role in designing supercomputing infrastructure for India at the Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC). As a corporate advisor, he shaped strategic initiatives in high-performance computing and spearheaded international collaborations, including partnerships with Russia and Singapore. He was instrumental in establishing a multi-country task force dedicated to building a high-speed research and education network spanning the United States, Europe, and India. In a prestigious two-year deputation to the Department of Science and Technology of India, he was appointed National Coordinator for the Research and Development division of the National Innovation Foundation, where he organized two national Grassroots Innovation Award ceremonies with the President of India. Dr. Khuntia’s expertise has also been sought by federal agencies, corporations, and international organizations, including The World Bank, Internet2, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. A passionate mentor, he has advised numerous Ph.D. students who have gone on to secure tenure-track positions in academia.
