Jo-Anne Ferreira, of Trinidad & Tobago, is senior lecturer in linguistics at The University of the West Indies, St Augustine, and is a member of SIL International. She received her BA and PhD in linguistics at UWI and a postgraduate diploma in Brazilian indigenous languages and linguistics from the Museu Nacional, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. Her research and teaching interests include sociophonetics, contact linguistics and Bible translation. Her publications include studies on the history of Portuguese language and culture in the Caribbean and on Trinidadian and other South American Caribbean French Creole varieties.
