Joan Shuman Long was an art teacher for 26 years in the Philadelphia Public School System. This is her only book. It was written shortly after returing from a round the world trip in 1968-69. She travelled while on a sabatical leave from teaching accompanied by her two teen age sons. For all of them the adventures were unique, sometimes scary and wonderful. The author tells how she and her sons were involved in the culture of East Africa while living in Nairobi Kenya. They soon knew many varied and interesting black and white Africans, tent camped in the game parks, and learned to love the stark beauty of the country. Best of all mother and sons bonded together as fellow travellers. Since retiring from teaching Joan has been a practicing painter and printmaker. Her art work has been exhibited locally, nationally and internationally.
