Mr. Joe Fred Everett

Joe Fred Everett hired on with the Plano, Texas, Fire Department on May 9, 1977. Under the tutelage of his famed mentor, Lt. Roger Smith, he soon gained a reputation as an aggressive firefighter. After Everett was promoted to Lieutenant in 1983, he was awarded command of the coveted Engine 10, a roving unit that responded to every fire call in the city. He made many exciting calls during that assignment. In 1986, he was promoted to Captain, and stayed in that rank for eighteen years. During that time, he received worldwide recognition as one of the pioneers of PPV, a new and innovative fireground attack system. He was accepted by the prestigious Texas State Firemen's and Fire Marshal's Training School in 1984. There, he was assigned as one of its instructors at Brayton Fire Field at Texas A&M University. Four years later, in that capacity, he was promoted to Instructor-in-Charge of the Warehouse Fire Project. He held that position for the next nineteen years. Concurrent with that, he was a staff instructor at the renowned Collin County Fire Academy in McKinney, Texas. His service at A&M and Collin County were in conjunction with his continued employment at Plano. In 2005, he was promoted to Battalion Chief, and soon after was appointed Chief Training and Safety Officer of Plano Fire Department. Chief Everett retired from active duty in 2007, after thirty years of exemplary service.
